This morning
in Arizona as I brushed my teeth I remembered what day it was and suddenly the
memories and images of those planes hitting the two towers came rushing back to
me. I remembered how I felt as I watched on my television the towers fall one
after the other and my stomach instinctively tightened again.
At my sink
this morning tooth brush in hand, I said a little prayer for those poor souls
who died that day. I hope all Americans will take time to remember that day,
what it meant to us, how it changed us as a country.
Someday I
will tell my two daughters about that day and how it affected me. I will tell
them that instead of thinking of how to negotiate with these evil people I
wondered how we defeat them. I wasn’t
thinking (pobrecitos) those “poor” people just need to be understood and because
of our compassion they’ll stop attacking us, I was thinking that they needed to
be hunted down and killed before they can kill any more innocent people. I will
tell them to remember.
Seven years
later and we have not been attacked again and I thank God for that.
I remember.
